Jim has been involved in financial planning with an emphasis on retirement planning since 1969. He began his career with Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company and joined Pension Associates, a pension consulting firm, in 1972. In 1984, he started his own financial planning company and in 1987 co-founded Karn Couzens & Associates, Inc.

A 1967 graduate of Southern Connecticut State University with a B.A. in Economics, Jim has earned Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations from the American College.

Jim’s commitment to others is long established. He served our nation in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Jim and his wife Jessica raised their three sons in the Town of Hamden where he served on the Board of Education, Town Council and Police Commission.

He is most pleased that his son Jeffrey chose to follow his career as a financial planner with Karn Couzens & Associates.
